There are many essential public services performed by the Whatcom County Auditor and office staff. The list of duties includes: Elections, Recording (documents of multiple types, both private documents like deeds, transactions, and many official actions), Vehicle and Vessel Licensing, even Marriage Licensing. Remarkably, the number of regular employees in this department has remained very much the same for years while staffing in most other departments and agencies has skyrocketed.
County Auditors are directly elected by the public, and those serving are typically well trained, experienced, and work-oriented. Non-partisanship in respect to services is a must. The Auditor's Office also facilitates the Charter Review Commission's work every ten years.
Members have repeatedly asked for the Auditor to attend a meeting to explain our local election and balloting processes. We were happy that these speakers could take time from their busy training schedule to speak to us. They're nearing the peak of the election preparation period; ballots are scheduled to be mailed October 16th.
Club members' guests are always welcome - bring a friend, business associate, or neighbor. The doors will open officially at 11:30 am.
